GREATER NEW ORLEANS AREA TEXAS A&M FOUNDATION
On April 21, 2014, twenty-five members of the New Orleans A&M Club completed a charter to form a charitable foundation dedicated to assist in fulfilling the mission of Texas A&M University. A committee was charged with the task of forming a charitable organization that would promote the welfare of Texas A&M by financially supporting students and student organizations who have demonstrated a commitment to leadership, responsibility, and service to society. The charter was signed by at least one member of a class from each decade from the 40s through the current decade.
The committee drafted bylaws that expressed that the purpose of the Foundation would be to provide financial resources for the advancement of education at Texas A&M University and its affiliated organizations through scholarships and other means that will assist in the development of students as future leaders of character who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence, leadership, integrity, loyalty, respect and service to society. These criteria are consistent with the values of Texas A&M (https://www.tamu.edu/about/coreValues.html).
The Greater New Orleans Area Texas A&M Foundation was incorporated under Louisiana law on July 23, 2014 and became qualified to conduct business in Louisiana on July 28, 2014. On August 5, 2014, the Internal Revenue Service determined that the Foundation is exempt from federal tax under Section 501(c)(3) and was classified as a public charity meaning that donors can deduct contributions they make to the Foundation.
