2012 Distinguished Alumni Of Texas A&M
Texas A&M University and The Association of Former Students are proud to announce the recipients of the 2012 Distinguished Alumnus Award: Donald A. Adam ’57, Bob J. Surovik ’58, Tommie E. Lohman ’59, and General Hal M. Hornburg ’68 (USAF, Ret). Eight additional recipients are being honored posthumously this year: Dr. Robert V. Walker ’45 and the seven Aggies recognized with the Medal of Honor—George D. Keathley ’37, Horace S. Carswell, Jr. ’38, Eli L. Whiteley ’41, Turney W. Leonard ’42, Thomas W. Fowler ’43, William G. Harrell ’43 and Lloyd H. Hughes ’43. The Distinguished Alumnus Award is the highest honor bestowed upon a former student of Texas A&M University.
Distinguished Achievement Awards
Twenty-four outstanding members of Texas A&M’s faculty and staff were chosen by the university and The Association of Former Students for the Distinguished Achievement Awardfor their commitment, performance and positive impact on Aggie students, Texas citizens and the world around them. An open-to-the-public recognition ceremony will be held on April 25.
The Association, Traditions Club Team Up
The Association of Former Students signed an exclusive corporate partnership agreement with Traditions Club, a Bryan golf course residential community. The partnership makes Traditions Club an official corporate partner of The Association, joining The Association’s efforts to provide support to Texas A&M’s student programs, scholarships and traditions.

2012 Ring Dance Open To Former Students
Ring Dance, a tradition in its 77th year, is open to former students in 2012 to celebrate the reopening of the Memorial Student Center. Set for April 28 in the newly renovated MSC, tickets are on sale now.
A&M Summer Junior Golf Camp
Texas A&M men’s golf coaches J.T. Higgins and Jim Anderson have opened registration for their summer junior golf camps. Camps are held at the Wahlberg Aggie Golf Learning Center at Traditions Club in Bryan.
Input Sought On Fish Camp Site
Texas A&M’s School of Landscape Architecture has completed a master plan for Lakeview, the site of Fish Camp, and the Strategic Planning Team is seeking feedback from former students to help Lakeview set priorities within the scope of the master plan for significant facility upgrades and additions. ‘Aggies: The True Story Of Texas A&M’
In 1907, during a disappointing home football game, a group of Texas A&M students borrowed the white coveralls of the custodial crew and began to entertain the crowd. These students began the distinctive tradition of the Texas Aggie yell leaders. Now you know the True Story. Learn more in “Aggies: The True Story of Texas A&M.”
Black Former Student Network Summit Set
The Black Former Student Network has been busy making plans for its annual summit and weekend, set for Sept. 6-8. The new Internet radio show “Aggie Up” has also been launched to support the BFSN. The group is also seeking former students to serve as mentors to current students and is collecting for its endowed scholarship fund.
